About Best Online Ruler

Best Online Ruler is a small, focused tool that turns your screen into an accurate, real-world ruler. Most on-screen rulers just draw tick marks at a fixed pixel size and hope your display matches; ours doesn't. We ask a quick calibration question first (auto-detect your device, enter your screen diagonal, or size a rectangle to a real credit card), so the ruler that shows up afterward is scaled to your actual screen, not a guess.

Why we built this

Existing online rulers were either wildly inaccurate on modern high-density screens, or bundled with intrusive ads, account sign-ups, and trackers for what should be a simple utility. We wanted something that respects both your time and your privacy: no installs, no accounts, and a visible accuracy readout so you know exactly how much to trust the numbers.

How it works

Every screen packs pixels at a different density, so a ruler without calibration can be off by 30% or more. Once you calibrate, using any of the three methods above, the ruler converts pixels to millimeters, centimeters, and inches using your device's actual pixel density, and keeps that calibration saved locally for next time.

Privacy, by design
